A serial entrepreneur approached us with the idea of creating a modern platform to find apartments to rent, which included scraping the web for listings and an admin to manage them, as well as a mobile app that allowed people to create Tinder-like stacks.
Challenge
We knew we had something different in our hands, but there was still room for innovation. We didn't want to go the traditional real estate route of adding a lot of filters to narrow the search, so we proposed creating an onboarding quiz that not only added or removed listings but also calculated a personalized score for each one.
In a nutshell: if my budget is $3,000 and I'm looking for 1 bedroom, why would I leave out a 2 bedroom that is $3,200? Maybe it's not my perfect match, but it's still very relevant.
Goal
We had to prove the concept first, and know that we could calculate the scores on-the-fly without sacrificing performance. We also needed a buttery-smooth interaction for users, and to make sure that the cards that were presented to them had the highest scores first.
If we could have users fill out a quiz and get the best listings based on their interests in seconds, the revolution would have begun.
Solution
The app was built in React Native so we could support both iOS and Android, considering that the platform is in closed beta in specific markets including Europe. So far the reviews have been phenomenal.
